Garden plans 2019

The primary goal for this year is to have a garden that does not look like a total embarrassment. I mean, sure, eating is nice and all but the poor space has gotten so neglected that a complete overhaul is desperately needed. I feel bad for the neighbors at this point. So I'd like to approach it in a more arranged, decorative way. A fun place for the little ones and I to spend time.

Something like this. With mown paths in between the squares. The arcs are cattle panels made into trellises.  This would take more space than we have but it's just an idea.

The horrid fence is coming down except for the area around the old duck coop/maternity ward. The main food-stealers around here are deer and they step right over the fence anyway.

Rough growing plan. I put in a big seed order from Baker Creek yesterday and will only need to buy potatoes and pepper transplants locally.

I would like the garden to look like this:

And this:

Not this:

Anyone see the tree growing by the terra cotta pot? I didn't plant it. The weeds were so bad last summer that a tree grew and no one noticed.

The bar has been set pretty low folks.

  1. I love a plan, even if it never comes right, a good plan makes me smile.

    1. I think late is the time when we hope for the best for our gardens

  2. Love this post and should be doing the same thing. Our vegetable garden was a complete embarrassment of weeds. At least the neighbors can't see it but visitors can. I try to distract them though. So my bar is much lower than yours I think.

    1. I wish we could hide it. It's an eyesore to EVERYONE drive past.

  3. I need a better plan. I have tree seedlings coming up everywhere so I wouldn't worry! your plan looks great. Wish we could get those hog panels here, make s simple arch from what I've seen. I'll have to try something else, would love to do it with squashes!

    1. We are plagued with squash beetles here so I'm *hoping* that getting them up off the ground will help? Nothing will eat them

  4. I bet the owners of the dream gardens don't have 2 small, beautiful humans to care for. Lynn

    1. I'm really, relly hoping that taking down the awful fence and mowing will help with the weeds. Hope, hope.
