Gummy bear cake

Yesterday afternoon saw the oldest and I having this conversation as I had yet to bake his birthday cake for the party today:

Me: "What kind of cake do you want me to make?"
Him: "Gummy bears."
"Excuse me? I mean like chocolate, vanilla,  strawberry, something like that?"
"Gummy bears. I want a gummy bears cake."
"That's not a flavor honey."
"Yes it is."
Me: "I thought you wanted a Loch Ness monster cake." (I had already spent $14 on this toy and had it hidden for the last 2 weeks).
Him: "No, maybe next year. I want a gummy bear cake. You could bake the gummy bears inside of it!"
"I dont think that will work sweetie."
"Well then you could put the gummy bears INSIDE so when you cut the cake they explode out of the middle!!!"

Oh for the love of...

Yes, I could. He saw this last year with M&Ms in the Wild Kratz cake so he knew it was possible.

I had a long time to think of the mechanics of this thing as the youngest didn't fall asleep until 11:30 p.m. With the Wild Kratz cake the M&Ms were in the center of a small bundt cake iced like a turtle. An angel food cake pan would have been perfect but I couldn't find mine so made due with hollowing out the center of the layers after they baked.

Here it is:

It was awesome.  Gummy bears did indeed tumble out of the center when it was cut into.

It was a really fun party for the kids but we miss the days of being able to invite more people than just immediate family.

  1. 10 out of 10 for your baking skills, shame we could not see his excited face when you cut into his cake.
